What are the Benefits of Sclerotherapy?

At Rejuve Med-Spa, we pride ourselves on offering treatments for all kinds of issues. If you suffer from spider veins, you may want to have them dealt with. While this condition is rarely serious, it can cause some cosmetic discomfort. You feel self-conscious when wearing certain clothes because you don’t want people seeing your spider veins.

As a result, we offer sclerotherapy as a treatment option for this problem. It’s one of our most popular treatments, and it can help clear your spider veins and restore your confidence.

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment that specifically treats spider veins. What are spider veins? All veins have valves that are designed to close to prevent blood from falling back through the vein. Unfortunately, these valves can sometimes malfunction and lead to blood pooling in the vessel. This leads to issues with walls of the vein, leading to branches of small vein clusters that are red, blue, or purple in color.

Essentially, it looks like you have a spider’s web pattern of veins in a small cluster on your body. Legs are particularly prone to spider veins, but you can also see them in your face. As mentioned earlier, most cases are cosmetic and nothing to be worried about. However, they can be an early sign of more serious vascular disease. We always recommend that you see a doctor before undergoing sclerotherapy to see if you need additional medical treatments.

Sclerotherapy treatment is very straightforward. It shouldn’t last more than an hour and consists of an injection of sclerosing medication into the afflicted veins. In essence, this medication works to collapse the blood vessel walls and direct blood to healthier veins. The diseased veins are then absorbed by the body, and your spider veins have disappeared.

Sclerotherapy Benefits

This treatment has some substantial benefits for people with spider veins. Obviously, the main one is that it gets rid of this problem. As such, you will no longer feel self-conscious about your spider veins and can be more confident. It may let you wear outfits you’ve avoided for years, boosting your happiness.

Furthermore, sclerotherapy actually treats the cause of the problem. It doesn’t cover up the spider veins; it actually hones in on the issue and solves it. This can help prevent further complications and prevent the afflicted veins from returning. Sclerotherapy has also been seen to reduce any symptoms associated with spider veins, such as persistent itchiness in the afflicted areas.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sclerotherapy?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we don’t recommend that you undergo this treatment. Aside from that, most people with spider veins are candidates for sclerotherapy. Rejuve Med-Spa will need to view your entire medical history before conducting this treatment. This allows us to see if you are a suitable candidate or if you would benefit from proper medical treatment. It’s also important to have realistic expectations of this treatment; it will cure your spider veins, but it won’t prevent others from forming in the future.
