How Long Does Kybella® Swelling Last?

In the past, you had limited options for getting rid of a double chin. Procedures like liposuction can remove excess fat, but today you have a less invasive option. Kybella® removes your double chin with a series of injections. 

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a minimally invasive injectable that gets rid of submental fullness (fat under the chin). The FDA has approved Kybella® as the first injectable for this purpose. By breaking up fat cells, Kybella® gives you a more sculpted profile and a slimmer neck. 

How Does Kybella® Work?

To break up fat cells, Kybella® used a synthetic deoxycholic acid. The natural version of this molecule occurs in the digestive system, where it helps the body process dietary fats. When injected into the layers of fat under the chin, Kybella® causes fat cells to break down. The body will filter away these damaged cells to leave the area more slender and shapely. 

How Long Does Kybella® Swelling Last?

Swelling, the most common effect after Kybella® treatment, will be worst during the first few days. Swelling can last two to three weeks. We space your treatments four weeks apart, so all the swelling has resolved before your next session. 

You may also notice some bruising, numbness, or soreness after your Kybella® injections. This will usually resolve within a few days, but it can last a week or more. None of this should keep you from resuming your usual activities immediately after treatment. 

Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella®?

Most people make good candidates for Kybella®. You should let your Rejuve Med-Spa RN know about any health problems. If you have an infection in the area, you may need to wait for this to resolve before getting your next treatment. 

What Results Will I See With Kybella®?

Most people will start to see results with Kybella® after two to four treatments. You may see results begin to develop after four to six weeks, but you will not see your full results until after all your treatments. Results continue to develop as the body gradually filters away the damaged fat cells. 

After the body has removed submental fat, it does not grow back. Your double chin removal will last as long as you maintain a consistently healthy lifestyle. You should not need any more treatments after your initial series.
