What is Laser Hair Removal?
Most hair removal methods either cut off the hair at the skin’s surface or pull it out from the root. Both methods leave the follicle, the living structure that grows new hairs. Laser hair removal uses lasers that target the pigments found in your hair roots. This pigment absorbs the laser energy, generating heat that damages and deactivates the hair follicle, preventing future growth.
How Frequently Will I Need Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is an ongoing process, not a single treatment. When you arrive for your first treatment, some of your follicles will contain hair roots. Others will be in a dormant state with no hair growth. These resting follicles are not affected by the laser. By the next treatment, more follicles will become active, and this continues until all your follicles have been treated.
Initial Treatment
At Rejuve Med Spa, we use the Alma Soprano ICE™ laser for pain-free hair removal. The number of treatments you need to remove your hair depends on several factors, including:
- The area of the body
- The color of your hair
- The density of your hair
- Your unique hair growth cycles
Most people need five to seven treatments to achieve hair-free skin. These sessions will be spaced multiple weeks apart to allow more hair follicles to become active for treatment. The overall timeline will be different for each person and type of hair.
Maintenance
Most people enjoy long periods of hair-free skin after they finish treatment. However, you may eventually see a few stray hairs start to regrow. Occasional maintenance treatments can manage these strays. While some people have maintenance treatments once a year, your schedule will depend on your pattern of hair growth and other factors.
Is There Any Downtime With Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal with the Alma Soprano ICE™ laser is skin-safe and requires no downtime. The skin may look red or flushed for a short time after treatment, and it can feel sensitive for up to an hour. Use sun protection on the treated area and limit strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
The Alma Soprano ICE™ laser treats more skin and hair tones than ever before, making laser hair removal accessible to most people. It can even treat lighter hair colors and darker skin tones not recommended for other lasers. Good candidates should have reasonable expectations and no infection or active skin condition in the treatment area.
