Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?

Tattoo regret doesn’t have to be something you just live with if you’ve got a tattoo that didn’t turn out right or is no longer your style. Cost and pain are the two biggest roadblocks to having a tattoo removed, and luckily, Rejuve Med-Spa can help on both fronts.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

The Quanta Q-Plus C laser is the only true 3-wavelength laser tattoo removal system in the world. This means that even the highest quality tattoos with the most vibrant ink can be removed at Rejuve Med-Spa. The Nd:YAG 1064nm wavelength is ideal for removing dark pigments like black and blue, while the Nd:YAG 532nm targets reds and oranges. The green and light blue color ranges are swiftly handled by the Ruby 694nm wavelength to round out the color spectrum. No part of the tattoo goes untreated with the Optibeam technology’s square tip. This makes it easier to treat the whole tattoo without going over the same area twice, minimizing the risk of burns and pain. The ink is shattered into tiny particles that the body absorbs and filters out through the lymphatic system.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Not all patients qualify for laser tattoo removal. Recent chemotherapy recipients and patients on immunosuppression medications may have difficulty healing from laser tattoo removal. Rejuve Med-Spa’s certified laser technicians are happy to answer any questions you might have.

Does Laser Tattoo Removal Hurt?

Every patient’s pain tolerance is unique to them, but universally, there is a bit of pain that comes with laser tattoo removal. However, technological advancements and the expertise of Rejuve Med-Spa’s practitioners make the treatment less painful than previous generations of laser technology. Treatment times are shorter and fewer treatments are necessary to fade the ink away. The size and location of the tattoo play a role in the pain level as well. Ink on the arms or shoulders is less painful to remove than a tattoo placed on the torso, small of the back, or near the neck. Many patients report the laser energy is similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin, a sensation made more bearable with the topical anesthetic cream, so your tattoo removal is no more painful than having the tattoo done in the first place.

How Long Does Laser Tattoo Removal Take?

That depends on the size, number of colors, depth of ink, and age of your tattoo. Your complete consultation will conclude with a customized treatment plan to best remove your specific tattoo. While some amateur tattoos will only take 2-5 sessions to remove, more sophisticated, deeper tattoos may require 5-15 treatments. Some patients see immediate improvement with one session while others need multiple treatments for visible results. Possible side effects include redness, swelling, crusting, flaking, and itching, and are resolved within a few days. You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions in preparation for your treatment.
