How Many Sessions Does it Take for Laser Tattoo Removal?

Tattoos often seem like a good idea at the time, but there could come a moment when you regret them. Regardless of why you’ve decided to remove a tattoo, it’s crucial to undergo the correct treatment. Nowadays, laser tattoo removal has proven to be highly effective at getting rid of tattoo ink.

At Rejuve Med-Spa, we offer laser tattoo removal for anyone that requests it. Contrary to popular belief, tattoos are not lasered off after a single session. Typically, multiple sessions are required, though it can vary depending on a series of different factors.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Tattoos use special ink that embeds itself into your skin, meaning it won’t come off when you scrub it and stay there for the rest of your life. So, to remove this ink, a special device is required. At Rejuve, we use the Quanta Q-Plus C laser, offering 3-wavelengths of light energy.

In essence, the laser shines different wavelengths of light on the tattooed area, destroying the pigments in the ink. After exposure to the laser, the pigments convert light energy to heat, breaking down and shattering into smaller particles that your body can absorb and filter out through the lymphatic system.

Average Amount of Laser Tattoo Removal Sessions Needed

Tattoos can be extremely stubborn, and they also come in all shapes and sizes. Therefore, we can’t say for certain how long a tattoo will take to be removed. On average, most professional tattoos will be removed within 5-15 sessions. However, amateur tattoos – or tattoos of lower quality – can be removed after 2-5 treatments.

It mainly depends on the quality of the tattoo and how deep the ink goes into your skin. Amateur tattoos tend to be closer to the surface, which is why they don’t take as long to remove. The tattoo’s size must also be taken into account, as do the colors used.

Am I a Candidate for Laser Tattoo Removal?

There are a few key medical requirements for anyone undergoing laser tattoo removal. Mainly, you need to be medically healthy and have a strong immune system. It is not advised that you have laser tattoo removal if you’re on immunosuppression medication or have recently had chemotherapy. This is because your body needs time to heal between sessions, meaning you need a healthy immune system. Other than that, if you have a tattoo that you no longer want on your body, you could be a candidate.

I am currently undergoing a series of laser treatments with Kinsey and I couldn’t be more pleased. She is professional and always sets me at ease. I highly recommend Rejuve.
