How Safe is Botox®?

In the cosmetic industry, plenty of procedures and treatments exist to deal with the signs of aging. Nobody wants to look old, regardless of whether you’re in your mid-twenties or early sixties! Wrinkles are typically the most obvious sign of aging, and one of the first issues you spot. Botox® is an anti-wrinkle treatment that has been around for a long time. It’s been used for decades to treat wrinkles, smoothing out the lines in your face.

What Does Botox® Do?

Botox® is the brand name for an injectable product called botulinum toxin. There are other brands available providing the exact same treatment, but Botox® is the most well-known and trusted, given that it was the original injectable.

What happens when you inject this toxin into your body? Well, it blocks nerve signals between your brain and muscles. In essence, this stops the muscle from being able to contract, meaning it can only relax. This is most commonly used on small muscles in your face, particularly ones responsible for forming facial expressions. When you smile, frown, or squint your eyes, you’ll notice creases forming in the skin. This is because muscles contract and pull on the skin, and constantly doing this will make the creases turn into wrinkles.

Thus, Botox® prevents these muscles from contracting, meaning you don’t end up with skin creases. As a result, it can help smooth out your face and prevent wrinkles.

How Safe Is It?

Many patients are worried about the safety of Botox® when they learn you’re injecting a toxin into your body that blocks nerve signals. However, there is nothing to worry about. Botox® is FDA-approved, and completely safe when performed by an experienced technician. The dosage of botulinum toxin isn’t large enough to cause problems in your body, and any side effects are very rare.

Potential Botox® Side Effects?

As mentioned above, the potential side effects are extremely rare and most patients won’t experience any at all. Still, there is a very slight chance you could experience swelling or bruising around the injected site. Headaches have also been seen as a side effect, but on the off chance you experience any of these effects, they tend to go away in a few days.

Benefits of Botox®

A massive benefit of Botox® is that it’s proven to work. Science backs this up, and the act of blocking muscle contractions is shown to significantly reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Not only that, but Botox® treatments yield results that last for a very long time.

Aside from working well and delivering excellent anti-aging results, another benefit of Botox® is that it’s non-surgical. Thus, many patients see it as an alternative to a facelift

Who is a Candidate for Botox®?

Generally speaking, the average healthy human with wrinkles or facial lines is a candidate for Botox®. However, there are certain portions of the population who are not suitable candidates. This includes pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with skin conditions in the target area, or anyone with muscular/nerve conditions.

I am currently undergoing a series of laser treatments with Kinsey and I couldn’t be more pleased. She is professional and always sets me at ease. I highly recommend Rejuve.
