Frequently Asked Questions

1. There are so many facilities offering Laser Hair Removal! How do I check the credentials for a facility?
Three questions to ask any Laser Hair Removal facility are –
a. Is the equipment FDA approved for all skin types AND is it PAIN-FREE?
b. Are the technicians certified and have a minimum of 3 years of experience treating all skin types? How long have they been working at that facility?
c. How long has the facility been in business?
2. Is it possible to minimize pain during laser hair removal?
The easiest way to minimize pain is to find a facility that uses the newest Laser technology that enables ‘pain-free’ Laser Hair Removal like the Alma Soprano Super Hair Removal machine. Other ways to minimize pain during Laser Hair Removal are the use of: A Zimmer cooling device, ice packs, topical anesthetic, and cold ultra sound gel.
3. Is Laser Hair Removal the same as Permanent Hair Removal?
Yes – Laser Hair Removal is one of the safest and most effective methods for Permanent Hair Removal.
4. What areas can be treated for Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal can be done on any body part except for your eyelashes and head. Common areas include the face and neck, arms, underarms, back, chest, legs, bikini area, hands and feet.
5. Is Laser Hair Removal For Men The Same As For Women?
Laser Hair Removal is not a gender based treatment and works in the same way for males and females.
6. Is Laser Hair Removal suitable for everyone?
At Rejuve we customize the treatment to exactly match your hair color and skin type. As long as there is some color in your hair, our system will be effective. We offer a complementary consultation during which our aesthetician will ensure that you are a good candidate that will get effective results before we treat you.
7.How do I know if I am a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
The FDA has approved several lasers for all skin colors (Skin types I to VI). As long as you have color in your hair, you are a good candidate.
8. What is the minimum age for Laser Hair Removal?
Although there is no strict minimum age requirement, it is advisable to wait until you reach puberty.
9. Is it safe to get laser hair removal before you are 18?
Yes! However, during the teen years the body goes through hormonal changes which can cause hair re-growth..
10. How does Laser Hair Removal work?
Laser Hair Removal is a fast and gentle way to remove unwanted hair, with great results. The laser applies precisely controlled pulses of energy, reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.
11. Who will perform the Laser Hair Removal procedure?
Our aestheticians, who have extensive training & certifications, with several years of experience treating all skin types and colors, will perform the procedure.
12. How many treatments of Laser Hair Removal will I need?
Hair can be in one of three stages. One of the stages is called the 'Active' (Anagen) stage. At any given time, 15% to 20% of your hair will be in the Active stage. During a treatment, only the Active stage hair will be treated by the laser. This is why between 5 & 7 treatments are needed at regular intervals to cover most of the hair for the body part being treated. Some clients may need additional treatments to complete the procedure.
13. How many sessions of Laser Hair Removal will it take to remove facial hair?
Typically, it should take 5-7 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart. However, the face is a “hormonal” area which means that new hair follicles can form during hormonal fluctuations.  The laser can only target hair follicles that are active at the time of treatment. Additionally, females can have a disorder called PCOS which can cause the over abundance facial hair. An Endocrinologist would be able to test for this disorder.
14. Why do I need to continue shaving between treatments of laser hair removal?
You can shave as often or as little as you want between treatments. The only time you need to shave the hair between treatments is just before the next treatment.
15. How long do Laser Hair Removal treatments take?
This depends on the area being treated. Full legs can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours; the bikini area can take up-to 30 minutes; underarms or lips will take up-to 15 minutes.
16. How far apart are the treatments?
Treatments can be anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks apart depending on the area being treated.
17. How do I prepare for the treatment?
Stay out of the sun or tanning beds or tanning lotions for at-least 2 weeks before the treatment. Shave the area to be treated just before the treatment. Do not wax or use any creams to remove the hair before the treatment.
18. What does Laser Hair Removal feel like?
Each pulse from the laser produces a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a quick, light pinch. The duration of each pulse is very short, in the micro-second range. Our laser tip is cooled to reduce the tingling effect.
19. How long before I see results of Laser Hair Removal?
You will see some results immediately. Within two weeks post treatment, the hair that is still in the “dead” follicle goes thru a phase called shedding. This process is very gradual and usually goes unnoticed unless you are growing the hair out and hence start to see bald patches. You can shave the area everyday starting the day after treatment to avoid the hair being visible. The next batch of hair will then appear as they get into the active stage. As you progress through your treatments, you will see less and less hair re-growing..
20. Can I be treated if I have blonde / red / grey hair?
The laser energy targets melanin in your hair. The greater the amount of melanin, the better the results will be. White or grey hair does not contain any melanin and hence cannot be treated. Blonde hair does contain some melanin and hence may be treatable. During your complementary consultation, our aesthetician will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal.
21. Is there a way laser hair removal can remove lighter colored hair?
If the hair has a true LIGHT color, then it is possible for a Laser to target it but if it lacks color (blonde or grey), unfortunately there is no laser available today that would be able to target the hair.
22. I’m Pregnant; can I still be treated?
Whilst there is no evidence to suggest that pregnant women cannot be treated safely, it is our policy to not treat pregnant women without written permission from their physician.
23. What side effects does Laser Hair Removal have?
Skin discoloration and scarring, although rare, can occur.  These side effects are more common in darker skin types.  If there is any darkening of the skin, it usually fades within 6 months to 1 year.  Scarring happens when there is a deep burn or blister.  This is also rare and more common in dark skin types.  If this happens, call your technician immediately to seek treatment.  The size of the scar will depend on the laser being used.    If you expose the treated area to sun, the risks of having a side effect will drastically increase..
24. What Is the Difference between Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal? Are they both permanent and about the same price?
Both Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis are FDA approved for permanent hair reduction. The Electrolysis process uses a hot needle to remove one hair at a time. This is why it is costly, extremely painful and time consuming. The newer Lasers for hair removal are virtually pain-free and take significantly less time per treatment because the Laser energy targets a large number of follicles per pulse and fires multiple pulses per second while gliding over an area.
25. What is the difference between Photo Light (Intense Pulsed Light) Hair Removal and Laser Hair Removal? Which gives permanent results?
An IPL lifts “colors” (sun damage, broken capillaries, etc). It is an Intense Pulsed Light, not a true laser and only stunts the hair growth making it a very temporary fix. Laser Hair Removal should be done with a true Laser that is FDA approved for hair removal for acceptable and lasting results.
26. Is it normal for freckles to turn darker after Laser Hair Removal?
A Laser targets the pigment in the hair. It is very possible that if a freckle exists in the area being treated, it may be targeted because it generally has more pigment than the surrounding skin. The good news is that If this happens, the freckle will initially turn darker but then go away.
27. Can bikini area laser hair removal cause loss of sex drive?
Absolutely not! The wavelength or DEPTH of the laser beam only goes to the end of the hair follicle. It does not penetrate deep enough to affect any nerves or organs.
28. Can laser hair removal cause health problems?
It is very important to find a facility that uses FDA approved Lasers for hair removal. An FDA approved Laser will utilize a wavelength that can only reach the end of the hair follicle. It does not penetrate deep enough to affect any nerves or organs. It is also extremely important to use a facility that employs trained & experienced aestheticians to perform the treatment. An experienced aesthetician will be able to correctly analyze the skin type and use the right Laser settings for the treatments so as not to cause skin burns..
